On May 10, we welcomed 900 members of the Bay Area MongoDB community to our fourth annual MongoSF.
Eliot Horowitz, 10gen’s Co-Founder and CTO, opened the event by sharing his key thoughts on the state of MongoDB: the maturity of the product, innovation, and improving operations. To the last point, he introduced MongoDB Backup Service, 10gen’s cloud-based backup service that will backup your MongoDB deployment to 10gen’s data centers reliably and conveniently.
10gen’s CEO, Max Schireson, followed Eliot’s opening by discussing the enterprise adoption of MongoDB, pointing to MongoDB use cases such as the Wall Project at MetLife. MongoDB adoption in the enterprise is largely driven by the excitement and enthusiasm of the developer community, and Max thanked everyone in the audience for being part of that movement.
Following the welcome session, the attendees congregated in the Expo Hall to meet several of our partners to learn about their complementary technologies and service offerings. Thank you to Red Hat OpenShift, MongoLab, Microsoft, Softlayer, MongoHQ, ObjectRocket, 28msec, Gazzang, Strongloop, Jax, and CumuLogic for supporting MongoSF.
The most compelling sessions of the event included some of the presentations from the MongoDB users. Here are some highlights:
- Yuri Finkelstein of eBay: “We are running MongoDB in a demanding environment where it’s exposed to business sensitive online apps.”
- Peter Bakkum talked about the merchant data team at Groupon, whose mission is to compile the best database of merchants and places, and use that data to power Groupon’s business
- Matt DeBergalis demoed Meteor, a JavaScript platform for building web applications
The rest of the MongoSF videos and presentations are now available on the presentations section of our website.
If you missed MongoSF, please join us for MongoNYC on June 21. We recently posted the schedule of speakers, which includes sessions on development and operations best practices, talks on the latest features in 2.4, and a business track featuring case studies from MongoDB users at Goldman Sachs, IBM, ADP, Telefonica, and Criteo. In addition to a great lineup of speakers, we'll have an expo hall where you can meet our partners and an after party for networking with other members of the MongoDB community. We hope that you can join us there.
